  Massage Therapy

Rick Tkach, RMT
Managing Partner
Rick had been practicing for 15 years and is our senior therapist. He is an ART (Active Release Technique) Provider. Rick is the massage therapist for the Burnaby Mountain Wrestling Team, and accompanied the team to the 2004 summer Olympics in Greece. Rick is also the massage therapist for the SFU track and cross country team, and has accompanied the team to Nationals.

Rick has completed 13 Iron Man triathlons and 10 marathons, and provides training programs to beginner triathletes as well as seasoned competitors.

Jeanie Bezdan, B.A., RMT
Managing Partner

Jeanie has been practicing for 11 years. She is certified in Infant Massage Instruction and also practices Prenatal Massage. Our Body Cushion allows the expectant mother to lie face down almost to term, making it an extremely popular piece of equipment! She also has a special interest in correcting alignment problems through Muscle Energy Technique, deep tissue massage and exercise.

Jeanie has been running for 23 years, and is competitive in track as well as road racing.

Joey Lattanzio

Joey was trained in the Okanagan and after graduating went into the spa industry with one of Canada's #1 spa chains.
Having a background in sports, Joey emphasizes rehabilitation as an important part of his practice. Joey also has experience in palliative care, prenatal massage, and sports massage. Joey has a passion for assisting people with their recovery needs.

Physiotherapy
Erin Lynn, B.H.K., BSc.(PT)

Erin earned her BSc. in physiotherapy from the UBC School of Rehabilitation Sciences, graduating in the top 5% of her class. She joined our clinic in October 2004 and is working full time. Erin also works with the Canadian National Men's Field Hockey Team as team therapist. Her responsibilities include acute injury management, taping, exercise prescription, manual therapy and on-field management. Erin has also completed Level 1 Manual Orthopaedics (treatment and management of joint injuries). Erin is certified to practice Acupuncture, incorporating it into her physiotherapy treatments. Micheline Wong, PT MHSc, BSc(PT), BSc(Nutrition)
Orthopaedic Level III Acupuncture Level I

Micheline has been doing research and clinic work in rehabilitation for the past 8 years. She received her physiotherapy degree from UBC, a Masters (M.H.Sc.) degree in Community Health and Epidemiology and a B.Sc. in Nutrition from U of Toronto. Micheline focuses her practice on orthopaedics and sports injuries. She uses manual therapy (Level 3), acupuncture (Level 2), pranic healing (Level 1) and visceral manipulation (Level 1) in her holistic practice. Her interests also include osteopathy, acupressure, postural realignment, myofascial release, energy work, and ergonomics. She has published a number of articles in the area of functional ability in older adults and sports injuries in children.

During off-hours, Micheline may be seen hobbling around in her attempt to train for her second half-marathon, and afterward face-down enjoying a well-deserved massage. She also enjoys doing yoga, reading esoteric novels, and is on a mission to find the “fountain of youth”.

Leanna Lee, B.Sc., M.Sc. PT

Leanna is a Registered Physiotherapist with a Master’s degree in Physiotherapy from McMaster University and a Bachelor of Science from the University of British Columbia. As part of her studies at McMaster University, Leanna completed the final component of her clinical training in New Zealand. Leanna’s keen interest in orthopaedic sport & work-related injuries were launched by her kiwi physiotherapy experiences. She has worked with a diverse population of clients ranging from professional rugby & netball players to the all too familiar “weekend warrior”.

Leanna’s treatment philosophy combines manual therapy with muscle energy techniques & innovative exercise prescription. Her special interests include: lower back & pelvis dysfunction/malalignment, spinal biomechanics & stability, retraining of aberrant neuromuscular movement patterns, and sport specific muscle re-education.

Personal Training and Active Rehab
Jon-Erik Kawamoto, B.Sc. Kin-Coop, RK, CSCS, CSEP-CEP

Jon is a Registered Kinesiologist with the British Columbia Association of Kinesiologists (BCAK) and the Canadian Kinesiology Alliance (CKA). Jon is certified with the National Strength and Conditioning Association as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) as well as a Certified Exercise Physiologist (CEP) with the Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology (CSEP). In addition, he is certified with the Canadian Red Cross with Emergency First Aid and CPR Level C. He is a graduate from Simon Fraser University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology-Cooperative Education. While attending SFU, Jon achieved Dean Honor Roll status and obtained certificates in Health and Fitness Studies and Applied Human Nutrition. While pursuing his degree, Jon attained hands-on experience in different aspects of the fitness industry involving rehabilitation and athletic training.

Jon's athletic history includes competing for the SFU Varsity Track and Field and Cross Country Teams. Jon achieved high recognition as a scholar-athlete, attaining one of the highest GPA's on the Track and Cross Country Teams. He contributed back to the Athletics program at SFU by volunteering as the Track and Cross Country Team's Manager for a year term. This position involved mentoring and providing assistance to new student-athletes.

Jon is responsible for the Active Rehabilitation program at Burnaby Square Orthopaedic and Sports Centre. He specializes in returning ICBC clients back to work, while promoting client independence. He is also in charge of the Personal Training and Strength and Conditioning department. He specializes in all athletic abilities; from helping people lose weight to guiding elite athletes to improved performance. Speed, agility and balance training sessions are also available to athletes or sports teams wanting to step up their level of play. Jon combines strength, speed and agility training and plyometrics to provide the athlete with the conditioning required to meet and surpass the demands required in the sporting arena.

Jon continually reads and updates his health and fitness knowledge. His experience, knowledge and passion for sport training make for an intense training style that is ideal for our sport-enthusiast clients. Naturopathic Physician
Dr. Danny Jui, N.D.

Dr. Danny Jui is a licensed naturopathic physician with additional certifications in acupuncture and Integrative Medicine. He graduated from McGill University with Distinction in Physiology and Psychology and received his Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine from the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine in Toronto. Before returning to BC, Dr. Jui became the first Canadian naturopathic physician to complete the innovative post-doctoral residency in Evidence-Based Integrative Medicine at Griffin Hospital, a teaching facility affiliated with Yale University.

Dr. Jui is passionate in providing the best possible integrative care for his patients. Based on his patients experiences, Dr. Jui recognizes the synergistic benefits of combining the strengths of naturopathic and conventional medicine whenever appropriate. He has a general naturopathic practice with additional focus on Fibromyalgia, Chronic Fatigue, Cardiovascular Health, Diabetes, Weight Management, Mental/Emotional Health, Sports Injuries, Arthritis, and Gastrointestinal Health. Dr. Jui also offers Wellness Programs in Smoking Cessation, Fertility & Reproductive Health, Sports Performance Enhancement, Health Enrichment in Cancer Care, and Mind/Body Stress Reduction.

Dr. Jui combines western physiology and eastern traditional Chinese medical theories into his analysis of health and illness.
