Infant Massage Lessons (0-9 mos)

With the fast pace of today's society and the advancement of technology, the basic art of touch is often forgotten. Touch is vital to developing security and bonding and has an important effect on the child's well-being and future relationships. Touch introduces a bond of trust, love, compassion and warmth that will follow the child into adulthood. The physical and emotional benefits of bonding will affect not only the infant but the parent as well.
Massage is a wonderful way to teach infants to relax. Stress is part of an infant's life, but in our society crying, a release for the infant, is often discouraged.
Infant massage is an effective way to relieve painful colic, stimulate growth, promote relaxation for baby as well as the parent, and is a special way to enhance the bonding process with your baby.
Our lessons are private only, booked in a quiet, warm room, with Registered Massage Therapist Jeanie Bezdan. Jeanie will demonstrate the massage technique on a doll, guiding the parent step by step as they massage their own baby. Two one hour sessions will be needed to cover the whole body. Please bring extra diapers and cloths.
Active Release Technique
Active Release Technique (ART) is a soft tissue system/movement-based massage technique developed and patented by chiropractor P. Michael Leahy. It is used to treat problems with muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia and nerves.
ART is most commonly used to treat conditions related to adhesions or scar tissue in overused muscles. ART practitioners treat muscles shortened and weakened by the build-up of adhesions. The shortening of muscles affects the motion of muscles and joints, and nerves can become compressed. As a result, tissues can suffer from decreased blood supply, pain, and poor mobility.
Many conditions can be treated by ART including headaches, back pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, shin splints, sciatica, TMJ, tendonitis and others. ART is a treatment of choice for competitive athletes.
